Alternative Weed Killer to Expensive and Useless Chemicals!!

Have you been looking for an alternative to purchasing useless weed killers from the stores that never work and spent countless amounts of money on these products. Well today I was on Facebook and came across this and though I would share with you! I have decided to stop wasting my money on these garbage products that do not kill the weeds on my driveway, so this summer I am going to try out this! Let me know if it works for you!

 Homemade Weed Killer

Here is a weed killer option for you to make that will be safe for your environment and tough on weeds…

1 gallon of white vinegar
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup liquid dish soap (any brand)
Funnel
Pour 1 cup of vinegar from gallon bottle, set aside to use in other things.

Put salt in the gallon jug(funnel works great) and shake until all salt is dissolved, fill it with the dish soap simply shake up jug to mix well.

Set aside and mark jug as weed killer. Pour in spray bottles and use as needed. This solution works best if you use it on a hot day. Spray it on the weeds in the morning, and as it heats up it will do its work.

Vinegar, Salt and Dish Soap Weed Killer

Truth be told, each of these items will work as an individual weed killer, but mixed together they are a lethal combination for weeds. Using a spray bottle to mix your ingredients, combine a mixture base of 1 qt. household vinegar, 1/4 cup salt and 2 tsp. liquid dish detergent. Shake this combo up vigorously until the ingredients have blended together nicely. Here is how it works…

*This mixture will also kill plants, so be sure to only spray the weeds.

How And Where Do You Use Them?

This is another ambiguous area. Consider these comments about the effects of these home made weed killers on your soil, and how long they have this impact:

(Note, these are not truths, they are opinions)

  • try to avoid spraying it directly on the soil. Vinegar breaks down the soil structure and kills beneficial microorganisms. In areas where this is applied, the vinegar can render the soil sterile for several years.
  • don’t spray it on the soil. It is non-selective in what it kills meaning it will kill any plant life it comes in contact with and it will sterilize the soil for up to two years depending on how much you get on the soil.
  • You will not be able to plant where you spray it for several months.
  • The nice thing about using a bio-degradable homemade weed killer is that you are not harming the micro-organisms that live in the soil.
  • Vinegar will indeed kill micro-organisms in the soil. It is a known germ killer as well. The good part about it is that it won’t harm you or your pets, but don’t spray it where you need the soil to be healthy with micro-organisms!
  • The great thing about using this solution is that it is natural. Natural solutions are essential for a cleaner environment.
  • Bear in mind it’s a broad spectrum killer. Homemade products aren’t necessarily better or safer than commercial ones.

  • It is non-selective in what it kills meaning it will kill any plant life it comes in contact with and it will sterilize the soil for up to two years
